Wayne Goode of St. Louis was elected to a one-year term as chair of the University of ÉäÒùʪ Board of ÉäÒùʪ during the board’s meeting Dec.6-7 in St. Louis. Don M. Downing of Webster Groves was elected vice chair. The leadership terms for Goode and Downing begin Jan. 1, 2013.
Goode, who served this year as the board’s vice chair, succeeds David Bradley of St. Joseph, whose board term as chair expires Dec. 31. Goode currently is a member of the Compensation and Human Resources and Finance committees.
Goode was elected to the ÉäÒùʪ House of Representatives in 1962 and the ÉäÒùʪ Senate in 1984. He represented the 13th Senatorial District in St. Louis County until his retirement in January 2005. From 1995 to 2000, he served as vice chair and then chair of the ÉäÒùʪ Senate Appropriations Committee.
He is a member of numerous boards and serves as chair of the ÉäÒùʪ State Capitol Commission. He also serves on the board of the ÉäÒùʪ Historical Society, and is treasurer of the ÉäÒùʪ Foundation for Health and the L-A-D Foundation.
Goode received a bachelor’s degree in banking and finance from the University of ÉäÒùʪ-Columbia and a Doctorate of Laws Honoris Causa degree from the University of ÉäÒùʪ-St. Louis.
Downing was appointed to the Board of ÉäÒùʪ in March 2009. An attorney, he is an officer and shareholder with the firm of Gray, Ritter and Graham, P.C., in St. Louis; he also previously served as managing partner of the St. Louis office of Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP and as Chief Deputy Attorney General for the state of ÉäÒùʪ.
Downing received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from MU in 1979 and his juris doctorate from the MU School of Law in 1982.
The Board of ÉäÒùʪ is the governing body of the University of ÉäÒùʪ and consists of nine members who are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. ÉäÒùʪ serve six-year terms with three terms expiring every two years.
